An important phase of project implementation has just begun:
In order to preserve the cultural heritage of Oybin Castle and Monastery, a contract was awarded for the rehabilitation of the area around the ring road, focusing on securing, preserving and making accessible the subsurface relics of the extinct buildings. The contract was awarded to Kühnapfel Spezialbau Radeberg, which has many years of experience in the construction of retaining walls and slope protection for important buildings in Saxony.
The work to uncover individual sections has already begun – and the first results are impressive. Clear carved and brick masonry remains have been uncovered on the front rock edge. The Provincial Office for Archaeology will now document these findings and assign them to known historical finds. Based on the survey, a decision will be made as to whether and how these structures will be presented further, so that this new knowledge enriches the experience of visiting the Oybin Castle and Monastery. An important criterion in the decision-making process is also the slope protection in the entrance area, as long-term drying of the soil has repeatedly led to landslides in sloping sections in recent years.
Another key part of the project is the new concept of the exhibition in the Bahrhaus. The climatic conditions place high demands on the exhibition of originals, and therefore – for the long-term preservation of the exhibition – replicas of historical stove tiles will be made. These copies will not only protect the original exhibits, but also serve as tactile models for people with visual or other disabilities. The relevant applications have already been sent to the State Office for Archaeology and a coordination meeting is planned for November 2025.
In addition, a number of project meetings were held to connect the tourist offers of the partner municipalities of Oybin and Pěnčín. The aim of these meetings is to plan and implement a virtual route Krásná–Oybin, which will connect the common cultural and natural experiences of both municipalities. In order to connect the tourist facilities and attractions of the project partners, the municipality of Oybin and the municipality of Pěnčín, several project meetings were held to discuss the planning and implementation of the virtual trail Krásná – Oybin.
